We have been offering an incredibly popular Morning Hike in Abisko for many years now, but our guests have consistently asked for something similar in the afternoon. We are happy to say that after years of development and requests from our guests, the wait is finally over! This afternoon trekking adventure takes all of the most popular aspects of our morning hike and adds even more excitement to the journey. 

This spectacular 3-4 km trekking adventure starts at 1:30 PM o'clock which means that you will get to see Abisko and the surrounding area in some of the most beautiful light of the day. During the early part of the season, you will get to witness the incredible splendour that can only be seen in the Arctic as the day transitions to night. Tours that take place early in the season will give you an opportunity to see the area in daylight as well as the beautiful Arctic glow that leads to twilight. As the season progresses, you will get to witness incredible sunsets that lead to dusk. Later in the season, the mountains and the incredible Arctic scenery may be glowing in spectacular sunlight for the full duration of the trip. Depending upon the time of the year, if the conditions are just right you may even be able to see the northern lights glowing above the horizon in the second half of the tour. 

Prior to the start of the tour, your guide will work together with the rest of the professionals at Lights Over Lapland to choose the route that you take on the day based on what the sky looks like, snow and ice conditions, the weather forecast and countless other metrics that are designed to ensure that we take the most beautiful route possible, each and every time we go out. Using this information, we will choose from one of the following routes:

A hike across the frozen surface of lake Tornetrask to a small island followed by a visit to our teepee.

A hike to Stornabben, a perfectly positioned lookout point with panoramic views of Abisko National Park and the surrounding valley.

Regardless of which route we take, one thing is for certain: your guide will take you to places that are spectacularly beautiful! During your adventure you will see lots of incredible Arctic scenery, soaring mountain peaks, and all of the epic views that make Abisko National Park such an incredible place. If time allows, your guide will light a fire, serve a warm drink and a light snack. All of our guides are highly trained and will share their extensive knowledge about tracks left behind by our local wildlife, local indigenous people of the region and what it is like to live in the Arctic.

While it is not guaranteed, you may have a chance to see beautiful animals during this trip such as reindeer, mountain hare, foxes, a full range of birds and the ever-majestic Scandinavian moose if luck is on your side! All routes will be led at a very relaxed pace and usually take between 1.5 and 2 hours to complete. Most of the trip happens on well-trodden ground but there can be inclines and loose/drifted snow during the hike. Your guide will be there to help navigate and walking poles can be provided if requested. Please let us know if you have any physical limitations that would make it difficult for you to keep up with a group of ten guests and one guide. The age limit of guests joining our tour is a minimum of 7 years old, due to the length and amount of time you will be out hiking.
